Wow, this is brilliant Drew. I'm so happy someone is saying this. The social part of dignity is so misunderstood. And heres the thing: social dynamics have changed A LOT since this system was built. So given that, why would we think they just automatically apply today as they did 2,000 yrs ago? For instance, triplicity dignity was tied to the ability to attract followers (because it links 3 signs of the same element) and followers are considered one of the most important resources these days. So I think maybe the powers of the various dignities might wax and wane, at least a bit, according to the social dynamics of the time
Also, isnt Mars on Algol there in the superman chart?
one of the most powerful stars in the sky -is still definitely a superhero Mars
I like that point about the power of various dignities waxing and waning depending on the cultural context. The contrast is interesting to me — the idea that dignities themselves are fixed in a metaphysical sense, but how they’re valued would be culturally specific. I’ll definitely keep thinking about this!
And yes, Algol! The hero constellation! Also the “mask” of the south node. Too much to unpack for this little teaser article. I’m glad we’re on the same page :)
So on point! It instantly made me think of Muhammad Ali—another iconic hero with Mars in Taurus who had to constantly fight for his right to have his opinions and choices recognized by „the others", starting with reclaiming his own name. Again, outsider struggle for legibility. Love this approach, thank you!
Hey Maya! What a great callout! I included your point about Ali in my instagram post just now. Thanks for reading and keeping the conversation going. Take care.
I'm so glad to hear that! It's a huge compliment. I really appreciate your approach to astrology and I'm happy to connect here. Have a great talk on Wednesday!
I really enjoyed the post. Such an interesting comparison between Captain America and Superman here.
Hellenistically speaking, it’s worth noting that Superman’s mars is being bonified by overcoming via the superior square of Jupiter. The aspect is nearly exact — there’s only a couple minutes of arc of orb. This may add an interesting layer to what you’ve already discussed, possibly explaining why Superman is so magnanimous.
In the future, these charts may be worth investigating for contrast: Hitler, Timothy McVeigh, and Stephen Paddock (Vegas shooter). They all have mars in Taurus. In these charts and biographies mars seems very strong, but also extremely malefic. I wonder if there are any key signatures in the birth chart that indicate when mars in Taurus will act by villainy or virtue?
Great points! Yes, the square with Jupiter is very notable. I have definitely been finding that the planets configured to Mars in the superhero inceptions play a big role in shaping the characters.
